At the weekend I bought myself this lovely copy of Emma, dating from 1904, and I've realised that I'm becoming somewhat of a collector.
I am now the proud owner of several old books. I own two books about Queen Victoria published in 1897 in celebration of her Diamond Jubilee, Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier from 1940, and the second Sherlock Holmes story The Sign of Four published some time in the 1930s.
Lurking in my parents' attic, I have a first edition of A Dance for Two by Jean Ure, her first published book when she was just sixteen.
Admittedly, it's not a large collection yet, but one that will grow because browsing through a second-hand bookshop is a great way to spend an afternoon.
Do you own any first editions? What's the oldest book in your collection? You have my permission to make me jealous!
